Flavor profile & serving tips for Negroni

The Negroni is a bitter, sweet and herbaceous cocktail with depth and character. The distinctive bitterness of Campari is balanced by the sweetness of vermouth and the spicy notes of gin. Perfect as an aperitif or as a drink to sip slowly.

History

The origin of the drink is unknown, but many accounts suggest it was first mixed in 1919 at the Caffè Casoni (formerly Caffè Giacosa, now Caffè Roberto Cavalli) in Florence . Colonel Camillo Negroni created it by asking the bartender, Fosco Scarselli, to spice up his favorite cocktail, the Americano, by adding gin instead of soda water . The bartender garnished it with orange peel instead of lemon peel, which is used for the Americano, to indicate that it was a different drink. [1] [2] [3] [4]
