History

Daiquiri ( Spanish : daiquirí ) is a classic rum drink based on rum , lime , and sugar syrup . It is said to have been created when The Daiquiri Mining Company in Cuba served this drink to a group of important business guests. Since they had nothing more to offer than rum and lime, they made a cocktail based on these together with sugar to balance the lime flavor. The drink was a success and has been one of the most popular rum drinks ever since. The drink is said to have been created at the Cuban tavern La Floridita in Havana. Famous daiquiri connoisseurs include F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway .
